“Complete the circle. Not out of pride, inability or arrogance, but simply because whatever it is no longer fits in your life. Close the door, change the record, clean the house, get rid of the dust. Stop being who you were and become who you are.”
~ Paulo Coelho
The final hurdle has been crossed … last night, a soft closing to the mobile. Checks received, deposited, payoffs written. Papers signed, notary’s stamp elegantly embossed, copies made, hands shook … a few hugs for good luck. Two years ago, less a month, I picked up a set of keys and opened the door to a place I would call home. It served me well … a quiet place of refuge to heal from the challenges of the years before, listening to the whisper of the trees and cherrie hellos of the chickadees. Now, in just a few days, I’ll hand these same keys to a young couple just beginning to make their way in the world. Life cycles. One door closes, another opens. One car pulls into a driveway, the other leaves. One woman steps into the closing quarter of her journey, while another begins the dance of adulthood. One pulls on the suit of expectations, the other sheds the mask and is birthed into the world as naked as she came in. The I’s have been dotted and the T’s are all crossed … a new record is about to drop from the spindle … and a new song is about to be sung.
